Book Recommendation: The Power of One: Reaching Every Person on Earth

If you have one book to read and complete this year (besides the Bible – I encourage us to be able to read and complete the Bible at least once in our lifetime), make it your goal to read and complete this book. The reason I recommended it is because it is related to the theme of this year for our church is “The Year Of Harvest”, so this book will help us to understand more of God’s heart for the lost. Our Senior Pastor, Ps. Niko Njotorahardjo is one of the endorsers of this book!
Dr. Billy Wilson, the author of the book, is the Director of Global Empowered21, the Director of Pentecostal World Fellowship and the President of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States. He has this vision of reaching every person on earth by Pentecost Celebration in 2033. Why 2033? Because 2033 marks the 2000 year anniversary of the first outpouring of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2). This might seem to be a huge vision to accomplish, as there are about 8 billion people in this world at the time of writing the book. However, we need not be overwhelmed by the number 8 billion, we just need to focus on reaching one person. That is the main thesis of this book.
In this book, Dr. Wilson shows from the Bible and from his own life “the butterfly effect” of reaching one person, i.e. we never know that God might use that one person to reach many other people to believe in Jesus. For instance, the author gave an example of the Samaritan woman in John 4. Jesus reached her and when her eyes opened to see Christ, she reached one city for Christ! You can also read at the end of chapter three the history of “the butterfly effect” of the famous evangelists in America, from D.L. Moody to Billy Graham.
One of the applications of the first sermon in this year by Ps. Denny for us is to start by reading the stories of missionaries. In this book, you will find a heap of them, like William Booth (founder of Salvation Army), Jim and Elisabeth Eliott, William Carey and many more that surely will change our perspective. Imagine if every Christian prayed for one person and shared the gospel to at least one person. I pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal the heart of Jesus for the lost through this book. Harvest now! Jesus for everyone!
